FLINT, MICH.: Flint Repertory Theatre has announced its 2020-21 season, which will begin in March. The season will feature a world premiere as well as Flint Rep’s New Works Festival.
“In these unprecedented times we believe that the role of theatre is more important than ever,” said producing artistic director Michael Lluberes in a statement.
The season will begin with The Last Five Years (March 12-28, 2021), with book, music, and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. This musical about two New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over the course of five years will be directed by Lluberes.
Next up will be the world premiere of The Magnificent Seven (May 7-23, 2021), with book and lyrics by Gordon Leary and music by Julia Meinwald. The musical, which was developed in Flint Rep’s 2019 New Works Festival, imagines the inner lives of the first U.S. women’s gymnastics team to win Olympic gold in 1996. Lluberes will direct and Duane Lee Holland Jr. will choreograph.
The final production of the season will be Jackie Sibblies Drury’s Fairview (June 25-July 11, 2021), a family comedy that turns into a deep examination of race and how we view each other.
Flint Rep will host its annual New Works Festival on Aug. 6-8, 2021, and will feature three days of reading and workshops of new plays and musicals.
Flint Repertory Theatre is committed to providing imaginative, thought-provoking theatre that is entertaining and inspiring for all ages.
