NEW YORK CITY: The Movement Theatre Company has announced the second round of its 1MOVE: DES19ED BY… commissions, curated by Dede Ayite, Stacey Derosier, and Tony winner Paul Tazewell. This round of commissions will focus on amplifying the work of Black designers and creative collaborators. Their work can be seen online on the Movement’s website. A digital Meet the Designers event, hosted by the co-curators, will take place on July 29 at 4 p.m. ET. Those interested can visit the Movement’s website to RSVP.
This new round of commissioned artists includes Nehprii Amenii, Brittany Bland, Christopher Darbassie, nicHi douglas, Alan C. Edwards, Mika Eubanks, Dominique Fawn Hill, Ramaj Jamar, Andy Jean, Teniece Divya Johnson, Taylor Lily, Nikiya Mathis, Twi McCallum, Kameron Neal, and Teresa L. Williams.
The designers join the first cohort of commissioned artists, who were co-curated by Clint Ramos and Cha See. 1MOVE: DES19NED BY… is a designer-driven initiative that gives designers absolute freedom as lead artists as they create digital content in response to the social and political issues affecting them and the world around them. This round of commissions brings the total number of commissioned artists to 30 designers, each of whom received $500. This second round of artists will also receive $100 to donate to an organization of their choice.
The organizations include Black Hills Legal Defense Fund, Black Trans Femmes in the Arts, the Brotherhood-Sister Sol, CancerCare, DEAFinitely DOPE, Innocence Project, the Loveland Foundation, Lupus Foundation of America, NAACP of Newark, NJ, National Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network, No Dream Deferred, See Lighting Foundation, S.O.U.L. Sisters Leadership Collective, and more.

1MOVE, the Movement’s digital content series dedicated to providing a multidisciplinary space for artists and communities to engage with current issues in the world, was launched in January 2017, born from the need to swiftly respond to human rights and social issues affecting communities.
