NEW YORK CITY: Roundabout Theatre Company has announced a lineup of new work for its 2020-21 Off-Broadway season.
“The development of new plays has become a core part of Roundabout’s mission, and in the 2020-21 season, we’re featuring three wildly varied looks at life in America today,” Roundabout artistic director/CEO Todd Haimes said in a statement. “I can’t wait for audiences to hear what these three women have to say.”
The 2020-21 Off-Broadway season will open with the world premiere of Sanaz Toossi’s English (Fall 2020), following four adult students in Iran as they prepare for the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language. The production will be part of Roundabout Underground, one of the theatre’s new-works programs.
Next in the lineup will be The Year to Come (Fall 2020) by Lindsey Ferrentino. In the play, an American family with various backgrounds and perspectives gathers together for New Year’s Eve. The New York premiere production will be directed by Justin Martin.
The final entry in the 2020-21 Off-Broadway season will be the New York premiere of Anna Ziegler‘s The Wanderers (Winter 2021), in which two very different couples address similar questions of happiness. Barry Edelstein will direct.
Founded in 1965, Roundabout Theatre Company strives to spotlight classics from the past, cultivate new works of the present, and educate minds for the future.
