NEW YORK: Soho Rep has announced a new shared leadership structure, naming producer Meropi Peponides to a directorial position alongside artistic director Sarah Benson and executive director Cynthia Flowers. Peponides will serve as director, artistic development and producing.
“I am thrilled to be embarking on this new way of working together,” said Benson in a statement. “Meropi has a phenomenal creative producing vision that is wholly distinctive and has majorly impacted how we make our shows. As I think about the future, I’m so excited about the multitude of incredible projects we have in development with two such brilliant partners as Meropi and Cynthia.”
“Since joining Soho Rep five years ago, Meropi has had a profound influence on our theatre,” Flowers added. “Sarah and I do not make any major decisions without her vital input, and I’m extremely happy that her role at the organization is being publicly recognized.”
Peponides is a co-founder of the producing collective Radical Evolution and previously served as the creative producing fellow at the Foundry Theatre. She has also worked as an assistant line producer at the Public Theater and holds an MFA in dramaturgy from Columbia University.
“I am excited for this opportunity to think differently about how leadership can look and function,” Peponides said in a statement. “We are all interested in interrupting the idea of a single charismatic leader at the helm of a theatre company, and the visionary way that Sarah and Cynthia have led the organization has opened up the opportunity for us to move forward with a spirit of experimentation and inquiry.”
