Hewett will start the position at the New York City organization in May.

NEW YORK CITY: Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation has announced that Rebecca Hewett will be the organization’s next executive director, beginning May 13. “SDC offers essential support and protection to artists across the country; the SDCF complements that work with valuable professional development programs,” Hewett said in a statement. “I am eager to start creating opportunities for a broad range of artists nationwide and thrilled at the prospect of working with the immensely talented SDC Membership. I am truly honored to do this work alongside Sheldon Epps and our generous trustees, and the incredible SDC staff, led by the phenomenal Laura Penn.”

As executive director of SDCF, Hewett will lead the organization’s efforts to create access to the field for emerging directors and choreographers, connect artists, advance the craft of directing and choreography, and honor the theatrical legacy of these artists at every stage of their career.

“I am delighted to welcome Rebecca Hewett to SDCF to lead us in positively impacting the current and next generation of stage directors and choreographers,” SCDF board president Sheldon Epps said in a statement. “Her demonstrated commitment to the field combined with her connection to a diverse pipeline of emerging talent and extensive experience in philanthropy will help expand opportunities for many emerging artists.”

Founded in 1965, SDCF exists to foster, promote, and develop the craft and creativity of stage directors and choreographers.
