ST. LOUIS: The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has announced the lineup for its 2019 Ignite! Festival of New Plays (March 27-April 4), featuring public readings of three new plays. Each performance will be followed by a talkback with the playwright.
A reading of Margot Connolly’s Quiz Out (March 27) will open the festival. Quiz Out, directed by Shelley Butler, is a heartwarming comedy about two teens exploring faith and sexual identity when they join their church’s Bible Quiz team.
The festival will continue with Frankenstein (March 30), Eric Schmiedl’s adaptation of the novel by Mary Shelley. Set in 1783, Frankenstein questions what it means to be human by examining the relationships the titular character has with the love of his life, his best friend, and the Creature. Seth Gordon will direct the reading.
Frida (April 4), with book and lyrics by Michael Aman and music by Dana P. Rowe, will wrap up the festival. Directed by Gustavo Zajac, Frida is a new musical chronicling the life of painter Frida Kahlo.
