SAN FRANCISCO: The Playwrights Foundation, a developer of new plays, has a new managing director: Kathy Li. She starts her new job immediately.
“I’m deeply impressed by Playwrights Foundation’s dedication to supporting playwrights, and I’m very excited to join this beloved organization at a time of capacity building,” said Li in a statement. “I look forward to working with the amazing team at Playwrights Foundation and joining the vigorous, diverse, and welcoming theatre community of the San Francisco Bay Area.”
Li was most recently the associate managing director for Yale Repertory Theatre and for Yale Cabaret. Li is originally from Shanghai and worked for the Shanghai Cultural Exchange Agency to present international theatre and dance for Shanghai International Arts Festival.
“I am very fortunate that Kathy Li will join our staff as managing director and partner with me to build our administrative capacity,” said Amy Mueller, the artistic director of Playwrights Foundation, in a statement. “As a young leader of color who is dedicated to a career in the theatre, she is well positioned to usher in an exciting new era in support of 21st-century writers.”
The Playwrights Foundation is currently hosting its 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival, where six playwrights will work on new plays and present them in readings to the public over two weekends. The festival runs through July 29.
