CREEDE, COLO.: Creede Repertory Theatre has announced its 53rd season, featuring two popular musicals, a Neil Simon play, a gender-bent Sherlock Holmes, a Young Audience Outreach Tour, and more.
First up will be Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park (May 25-Aug. 9, 2018), a romantic comedy about two newlyweds whose marriage begins to fall apart just days after their wedding.
Next will be L. Frank Baum’s classic The Wizard of Oz (June 8 – Aug. 26, 2018), with music and score of the MGM film by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg.
CRT’s resident improve troupe, Boomtown (June 23 -Sept. 8, 2018), will also return for their 12th season at CRT.
Running simultaneously with The Wizard of Oz and Boomtown will be Dolly Parton and Patricia Resnick’s musical 9 to 5 (June 29-Aug. 25, 2018), based on the 20th Century Fox film of the same title. In this hilarious (and newly timely) musical, three female office employees decide to retaliate against their male boss after they become fed up with his sexism.
Now in its 16th season, The KID show (July 12-14, 2018) will return to CRT. Young creative minds will develop and produce a play with professional artists. The KID Show is recognized by the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.
Next will be Miss Holmes (July 27-Sept. 15, 2018) by Christopher M. Walsh. In a gender-bent take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic characters, the play follows Miss Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Dorothy Watson as they travel their way through 19th century London.
Next up will by Guadalupe in the Guest Room (Aug. 17-Sept. 14, 2018) by Tony Meneses, which tells the story of two people dealing with loss who form a connection through a shared love for telenovelas.
CRT will continue its Young Audience Outreach Tour for the 35th year running. The program brings bilingual musical theatre to more than 70 communities in the rural Southwest. Book and lyrics for this project are by Lojo Simon, with music by Ian LeRoy. The show will be directed by Melissa Firlit. The tour is supported by the Krueger Charitable Foundation, the RLC Foundation, and the National Endowment of the Arts.
