CHICAGO: American Theater Company (ATC), has named Katie Klemme its new managing director, effective immediately. Klemme steps into the new role after serving as the company’s resident stage manager since 2008.
“I could not be more thrilled to have Katie taking on this crucial role in the company as we move ATC towards a vibrant future together,” said artistic director Will Davis in a statement. “Katie brings with her so much institutional knowledge, an incredible energy for implementing new ideas and systems, and the kind of ambitious spirit I need on this new adventure.”
Prior to her time at ATC, Klemme served as managing director for Pegasus Players from 2004-2007, and at Organic Theater Company from 2000-2004. She has worked with Geva Theatre Center, Northlight Theatre, Theater Wit, About Face Theater, Windy City Playhouse, Arts Emerson, and TODD + BRYAN Present, among others. At ATC, she worked as the production stage manager for 22 productions. Since 2007, she has been on faculty at Loyola University Chicago’s department of fine and performing arts, teaching courses in stage management.
“American Theater Company has been my artistic home since 2008, so it only seems fitting to join the staff in this new role as ATC begins a new chapter with artistic director Will Davis’s inaugural season,” said Klemme in a statement. “We have big plans for the small, but mighty warehouse at 1909 W. Byron.”
