SEATTLE: Intiman Theatre has announced that Sara Porkalob will serve as co-curator of the theatre’s programming in 2017. The theatre’s co-curation leadership model, which began in 2016, is designed to bring fresh voices and perspectives to the theatre. Porkalob will announce the season selections and perform at the theatre’s season launch party on Feb. 18.
“Sara is a singular voice in our region and should be supported in big ways, and in turn she will blaze paths and open doors for many others,” said producing artistic director Andrew Russell in a statement. “Her deep interest in intersectionality and education mixed with her hysterical and powerful work as a performer makes her the right fit for Intiman Theatre at this time.”
Porkalob is an award-winning solo performer, actor, director, and arts activist.
“As co-curator, I am thrilled to be part of this new, radical leadership model that Intiman Theatre created,” said Porkalob in a statement. “In the move toward equity and representation of diverse voices and communities, people in positions of power have the greatest ability to enable that change. The Seattle community is full of narratives that deserve a full voice, and having a seat at the table with Intiman means I can give power to those narratives.”
