RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIF.: MainStreet Theatre Company, one of this magazine’s “20 Theatres You Should Take Your Kids To,” has announced the lineup for its 2016-17 season. The season will offer three shows based on well-known children’s stories.
The first show of the season will be Stuart Little (Oct. 1-16), adapted by Joseph Robinette from the book by E.B. White. The story follows a mouse named Stuart, who goes on adventures throughout New York City. Original music will be composed by Deborah Wick-La. The show is recommended for grades K-3. Art Manke will direct.
Next up will be The Secret Garden (Jan. 28-Feb. 12, 2017), adapted by Pamela Sterling from the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The tale is about Mary Lennox, an orphan who is taken away from her home in India to live with her reclusive uncle in England’s Yorkshire Moors. The production will include live puppetry, and is recommended for ages 7 and up. Jessica Kubzansky will direct.
Rounding out the season will be Goldilocks and the Three Bears (April 28-May 13, 2017), with music by George Stiles and book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe. A musical adaptation of the oft-told children’s tale, this production will be directed by Abigail Deser, with musical direction by Janice Rodgers Wainwright. It is recommended for ages 4 and up.
