SAN FRANCISCO: Playwrights Foundation has announced the lineup for the 2016 Bay Area Playwrights Festival, its 39th iteration, which will take place July 15–24. The festival will showcase six readings over two weekends.
The selected plays include Hansol Jung’s Wild Goose Dreams, about a North Korean defector and a South Korean goose father who hook-up to assuage their loneliness. The reading will feature a chorus.
Non-Player Character by Walt McGough is about a video game designer and her longtime friend who rages a real-life war against her with an army of internet trolls.
Before Evening Comes by Philana Omorotionmwan takes place in 2083 where a draconian government mandate renders nearly all males of color homebound and disabled as they reach manhood.
Whisper Fish by Andrew P. Saito is about the reunion of two estranged Japanese-Peruvian siblings. The reading will feature Glenn Miller’s orchestra.
Sarah Sander’s Sycamore is about the siblings of a Midwestern suburban family who compete for the attentions of a young, quiet stranger.
Good, Better, Best, Bested by Jonathan Spector is about a disturbing event on the Las Vegas strip, and how the denizens and visitors there reckon with it.
