MINNEAPOLIS: Pillsbury House Theatre has announced its 2016 season, its 25th, which will include new plays by Tanya Barfield, Christina M. Ham, and Michael Elyanow.
The season will open with Barfield’s Bright Half Life, directed by Ellen Fenster (Jan. 22–Feb. 21, 2016). The romantic drama follows the relationship between Vicky and Erica over their four-decade partnership.
Next will be Scapegoat by Ham, directed by Marion McClinton (May 27–June 26, 2016). The historical drama is set in Elaine, Ark., and follows two modern-day interracial couples, juxtaposed against the tense relationships between two black and white families during the historic and deadly race riots of the Red Summer of 1919.
Elyanow’s The Children, directed by Noël Raymond (Sept. 16–Oct. 16, 2016). The play is based on Euripides’ Medea, with puppetry and a contemporary twist.
