Company One’s 2015–16 Season to Tackle Abortion, Race, Gender

Next season to feature plays by Ruby Rae Spiegel, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Young Jean Lee, and Natsu Onoda Power.

BOSTON: Company One Theatre has announced its 2015–16 season, which will include plays from Ruby Rae Spiegel, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Young Jean Lee, and Natsu Onoda Power.

The season kicks off with the Boston premiere of Spiegel’s Dry Land (Oct. 2—30), set in a high school locker room where two girls are attempting a do-it-yourself abortion. Steven Bogart will direct.

Next will be Jacobs-Jenkins’s An Octoroon (Jan. 28—Feb. 27, 2016), a part-adaptation/part sendup of Boucicault’s The Octoroon. Summer L. Williams will direct. Octoroon is a coproduction with ArtsEmerson.

Lee’s We’re Gonna Die will follow (April 21—May 15, 2016), a song cycle that explores, with humor, mortality. Company One artistic director Shawn LaCount will direct.

Following will be the regional premiere of Power’s The T Party (July 22—Aug. 20, 2016), an immersive exploration of gender identity. As with her previous foray at Company One, Astro Boy and the God of Comics, Power will also direct.
