NEW YORK CITY: The New Group has announced its 2015–16 season, complete with a classic revival, an Off-Broadway premiere and a world premiere.
The season begins this coming summer with the Off-Broadway premiere of Philip Ridley’s Mercury Fur, about two men who throw parties for the wealthy and help guests act out their darkest fantasies. New Group artistic director Scott Elliot will direct at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at Signature Center.
Next, in the fall, is the world premiere of Mark Gerrard’s Steve, about a failed Broadway chorus boy fearful of aging and the passage of time. Cynthia Nixon will direct at the Linney.
Closing the season in early 2016 will be a revival of Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer-winning Buried Child, a family drama about a couple whose grandson pays an unexpected visit and stirs up hidden family secrets. Ed Harris and Amy Madigan will star. Elliott will direct this production at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre.
