PHILADELPHIA: Walnut Street Theatre has announced the 2015–16 programming for Independence Studio On 3 lineup, a complement to its previously announced mainstage season. Each show in the six-show Independence season has been given an extra week this year.
First up is Shipwrecked! An Entertainment (Oct. 6–Nov. 1), Donald Margulies’s tall tale as told by explorer Louis de Rougemont.
Next is the story of Karola Siegel’s transformation into Dr. Ruth Westheimer in Becoming Dr. Ruth (Nov, 17–Dec. 27), a play by Mark St. Germain.
Then comes Eugene O’Neill’s A Moon for the Misbegotten (Jan. 12–Feb. 7, 2016), about the sparks that fly between the unmarried Josie and Jamie Tyrone Jr. after his mother’s death.
John Logan’s Red (Feb. 23–March 20, 2016), an examination of the working methods of abstract expressionist Mark Rothko.
Closing out the season will be Ted Swindley’s Always… Patsy Cline (April 5-July 3, 2016), in which a fan travels to Houston to meet her music idol.
