NEW YORK CITY: The Transport Group has announced a pair of musicals, one a world premiere, for its its two-show 2015 season.
First up is The Blonde Streak (July 5–Aug. 16), a new musical by Dan Lipton and David Rossmer. A romantic comedy, it tells the story of Walter, a chef left at the altar on his wedding day, who embarks on a road trip in a limo with his best friend and favorite ex.
Then comes a revival of Mary Rodgers’s classic musical Once Upon a Mattress (Nov. 29–Jan 3, 2016) , with lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Barer, and Dean Fuller. Originally the show that launched Carol Burnett as a performer in 1959, the Transport Group’s production will star Jackie Hoffman (currently on Broadway in On the Town) and drag artist John “Lypsinka” Epperson.
Both productions will be directed by Transport Group artistic director Jack Cummings III. Transport Group was founded in 2001 by Cummings and Robyn Hussa. The Off-Broadway company specializes in new plays and musicals, as well as revivals of American work.
