Founded in 2004 on the occasion of the 150th birthday of Oscar Wilde, the unofficial gay patron saint of wit and theatre, the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival offers emerging LGBT artists and theatrical works an international platform. The Dressers (pictured), written by and starring David Malcom and Michael Cotton, depicts the story of two backstage costume hands dreaming of their big break under the lights. The two actors play eight characters, donning an avalanche of different costumes in this chaotic musical comedy.

Since its inception in 1947, the Holland Festival has always been a hotbed for the unorthodox and avant-garde in the performing arts world. The Residenztheater in Munich’s production of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s play The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (pictured) deals with the themes of power, love and control when a famous fashion designer gets trapped in a lesbian love affair. The director Martin Kušej’s sterile white luxury apartment setting acts as a desolate prison.
