“We always want to take on a serious subject—and, to us, there is nothing more serious than comedy,” says Austin Tichenor, co-writer, co-director and performer of The Complete History of Comedy (abridged), running Nov. 9–Dec. 29 at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. This marks the ninth stage production by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, and the eighth stage collaboration for Tichenor and Reed Martin. Together, they’ve “reduced” the Bible, sports and Western civilization. Audiences for this latest creation can expect the company’s unique mash-up of the high-brow with the low, as they attempt to answer the question “What makes us laugh?” The RSC has, in fact, been making people laugh in 17 countries for over 25 years, securing their particular place in comedy history. Company members are touring the other RSC shows in the U.S. and the U.K. through the end of the year.
