An honorary doctorate of fine arts is presented by Syracuse University to Peter Zeisler, director for 11 years of Theatre Communications Group, in commencement ceremonies May 12. Zeisler is joined by, from left, Arthur Storch, producing director of Syracuse Stage; English professor Art Hoffman; and SU chancellor Melvin A. Eggers, who cited Zeisler for his role as a founder of the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, the League of Resident Theatres and the American Arts Alliance. “There have been several milestones in the development of the American national theatre movement,” said Syracuse Stage managing director James Clark in his nominating statement, “and Peter Zeisler has been at the center of each of them.” Among the other honorary degree recipients were Dan Rather of the CBS Evening News and U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
