Published by Theatre Communications Group, the national service organization for theatre
in America, AMERICAN THEATRE is the nation’s premier theatre magazine. We believe that the
most important decision we make is whose stories we tell. Our editorial values are accountability, advocacy, creativity, diversity, excellence, innovation, mentorship, sensitivity, teamwork, and truth-telling. From small storefront operations to multi-million dollar resident theatres, we aim to cover the full range of performance in the U.S.
Did you know that people who attend theatre are 2x more likely to be repeat buyers? When our readers believe in someone or something, they become FANS! National trends show that theatre audiences are getting younger; average age 40 according to the Broadway League. Upwards of 60% of theatre patrons are women, according to the League of American Theaters and Producers. Theatre audiences are still predominantly white, but those numbers are rapidly changing. Stage Raw found in a survey of Southern California theatres that audiences went from 10% non-white to 30% non-white in five years. About 80% of regular theatregoers have a four-year degree.
Our audience includes:
*Professional theatre workers (directors, designers, playwrights, administrators, technicians, actors, agents, critics, editors, etc.)
*Arts funders (arts councils, foundations, and corporations)
*Theatre students and educators at the middle school, high school, college, and university levels
*Patrons of theatres across the country, including subscribers, single ticket buyers, board members, trustees, volunteers, and the press
AMERICAN THEATRE (AT) is the most comprehensive performing arts publication in the U.S. Our print publication is produced quarterly (October, January, April, and June). The magazine is mailed to more than 4,000 TCG members as well as individual subscribers, artists, theatre educators, and enthusiasts across North America. In addition, the magazine is sold at independent bookstores and select Barnes & Noble locations across the U.S.
