NEW YORK CITY: The Barrow Group Theatre Company and School has named Robert Serrell as its new executive director. Serrell will begin leading the 28-year-old company effective immediately.
“TBG is an inspiring community of teachers and artists who have developed one of the top actor training programs in world,” Serrell said in a statement. ” They have an impressive history of award-winning theatrical productions, workshops and readings and I am honored to be asked to continue my work with them in this capacity. I look forward to partnering with the school, company, board and staff to chart a course for the future.”
Serrell first joined the Barrow Group in 2010 as director of education. Under his leadership, the annual school revenue increased by 600 percent and annual website visits by 1,000 percent. This year, the New York Foundation named Serrell an “emerging leader” for the Arts.
In a statement, co-artistic directors, Seth Barrish and Lee Brock, say, “With Robert Serrell as executive director, TBG has an unlimited ability to impact the acting community. Robert understands who we are, what sets us apart from others, and has repeatedly demonstrated the passion and skill to get things done. We greatly look forward to working with Robert as we move into our third decade.”
In the next six months, TBG will begin offering weekend acting workshops around the world and Barrish’s book, An Actor’s Companion, will be re-published by Theatre Communications Group, with a forward by former student Anne Hathaway.
